iPhone 3g now selling at BestBuy

As expected Best Buy has begun to sell the iPhone 3G, along with, as I previously mentioned, those special accessory packs. I guess I should give some credit to Best Buy as they are the first retailer other than AT&T or Apple to carry the device, but that said, its really just another place to make the purchase and not to talk poorly about any Best Buy staff because I would say the same about AT&T, but if I was a non-geek and had questions I would feel much better making my purchase at Apple.
Anyway, along with the Sunday circular ad, Best Buy has added a shiny new page to their website touting the iPhone 3G along with its features, accessory packages and a “special edition” iPhone 3G buyers guide that is “packed with offers for your new iPhone on bundle packages, accessories and more. Sadly that Buyers Guide seems to be nothing more than an advertisement for the accessories mixed in with a little bit of information that looks to have been taken from the Apple website and some of the AT&T plan information.
We can also confirm that those accessory packages do contain some decent products, but as expected they are a little on the high dollar side, especially for an add on to a $199 or $299 phone. They start at $105.99 and run upwards of 233.99.
Starting out on the lower priced $105 package, you will get a set of Shure Stereo headphones with mic and a 5-pack of DLO Surface Shields. The next package up is $116 and includes a black leather Incase, an InvisibleSHIELD screen protector and a motorola H680 Bluetooth headset.
Moving up to the two higher packages, which is also about half the price of the 16GB phone at $152, this one comes with a black DLO Jam Jacket, Apple branded composite video cables and a Sony Clock Radio. Finally the highest price pack retails for $233 and includes an Incase protective cover, Belkin FM transmitter and a new Jawbone Bluetooth headset.
Again these are some somewhat decent packages, but I cannot help think that some people would have felt the need to purchase them just to get that “free” setup. Again, shame on you Best Buy.

Apple puts up banners for its September 9th event

Earlier today, Andrew Mager of iPhoneSavior posted an image of an Apple banner being hung on the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.
The fact that this ad is for an iPod can only mean one thing: major changes in Apple’s iPod lineup.
You have probably heard of the countless rumors floating around about the possibility of new iPod Nanos/iPod Touches, as well as iTunes 8. Well, in less than three days we will be able to see which of these rumors are actually true!
I think I should mention that the image found on this large banner is very similar to the image released to us about a week back.

EA bringing Spore Origins, nine additional games to the iPhone

EA has recently announced that they are bringing ten new games to the iPhone and iPod Touch. Leading off with what is perhaps the most exciting, or at least the game with the most hype in the bunch is Spore Origins. According to the press release its expected to hit the App Store sometime “later this month” although its been rumored to be coming as early as September 7, which would correspond with the Mac and PC release.
As for those nine extra games, they will include Yahtzee Adventures, EA Mini Golf, Lemonade Tycoon, Mahjong, Monoploy: Here & Now The World Edition, SimCity, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09, Need for Speed Undercover and The Sims 3.
All in all it seems EA has put together a nice collection of games that should offer something for just about anyone looking to kill a little time on their iPhone. Keep reading to check out the official release.
LOS ANGELES, Calif., – September 5, 2008 – EA Mobile™, a division of Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ:ERTS), today announced that Spore™ Origins, an original game for the iPhone™ and iPod® touch, will be available this month. The game takes full advantage of the devices’ built-in accelerometer as players tilt, turn and twist their way through a world made of primordial ooze. Eat-or-be-eaten in Spore Origins! Leaked Picture of new nano

I’ll keep this short, Alibaba, an online marketplace, has posted a picture of what appears to be the new iPod Nano.
There is no definite way of determining the validity of this image, but it looks quite realistic for the most part. Then again, with the leaked iPod Nano tech specs and a copy of Photoshop, almost anything is possible.

iPhone Life print magazine launching Sept 9

In an online time that seems to be pushing print magazines a little further out of need, a new magazine is preparing to push out its first issue. That is right, iPhone Life will role out its premier issue on September 9 and is being published by Thaddeus Computing, the former publishers of Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine.
iPhone Life will be available by subscription and also at major bookstores to include Barnes & Noble, Borders and Wal-Mart. Readers who choose to subscribe will get the premier issue and at least four issues in 2009 and four in 2010 for just $25. Subscribers will also get a digital iPhone friendly version of each issue.
According to the publisher, “the iPhone is changing the way people use their phones, and we’re here to help them get the most out of it.” I like the idea, but cannot help but think most of the material will be found online before the issues ever hit the newsstand or mailbox. However, thinking like a non-geek this may be a good way to get some of those tips and tricks into everyone’s hands.
If you are looking to get an idea of what to expect you can check out the table of contents from the premier issue here.
The 100-page premier issue includes:
Full coverage of the new 3G iPhone
Top software from the iTunes store
85 hidden features
Best FREE software and web apps
How to Rip DVDs
Must-have accessories
Safari surprises
iPhone profiles of a doctor, rabbi, student, mayor, CEO
Celebrities who have iPhones
Regular departments include profiles of people who have integrated the iPhone into their life, articles telling users how to get the most out of their iPhone, resources available on the Internet such as free software and support, and more.

New iTunes 8 features leaked by Kevin Rose

Digg founder Kevin Rose is back at it again, this time with information relating to the anticipated release of iTunes 8.
According to his blog KevinRose.com,
“A new source comes forward w/this info: (this is consistent w/everything I’ve heard)
What’s new in iTunes 8
iTunes 8 includes Genius, which makes playlists from songs in your library that go great together. Genius also includes Genius sidebar, which recommends music from the iTunes Store that you don’t already have.
With iTunes 8, browse your artists and albums visually with the new Grid view; download your favorite TV shows in HD quality from the iTunes Store; sync your media with iPod nano (4th generation), iPod classic (2nd generation), and iPod touch (2nd generation); and enjoy a stunning new music visualizer.”
In the rumor game, Kevin Rose’s track record is pretty impressive. He leaked to us the possibility of a $200 iPhone, and broke the news about the possibility of new iPods on September 9th.
As the founder of Digg.com, a lot, and I mean A LOT of news reaches Kevin Rose’s ears. In my opinion, I would have to say that this rumor will probably turn out to be true.
You can see Kevin’s original blog post here, as well as the aforementioned September 9th iPod rumor here.
Remember that this is just a rumor, a valid one albeit, but still a rumor!
UPDATE: Apparently Kevin Rose already has a copy of iTunes 8 as per his Twitter feed:
“the new iTunes 8.0 visualizations are really trippy - there is one with planet like objects wrapping around each other w/stars/light streams”
